Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover
Some of my favorite items to use in bookcase display are old books, which are readily available at your local Goodwill, or you may find some at the next estate sale. Once you have a few hardbacks, you’ll see that under their ancient paper covers, the books themselves are often beautifully bound. I like to group them together by color; you can place them horizontally and use them to place accessories on top. As complement to books, boxes, frames, vases, and collectables are perfect for bookcases. Small mirrors placed in the back of bookcases are another favorite of mine, they reflect back light and give depth. Place metallic objects in the bookcase to add some bling and sheen.

K.I.S.S. When it Comes to Color
Group your colors together and stick with no more than three color tones; the result is far more appealing to the eye than a mishmash of colors. The bookcase in these photos are perfect examples for grouping items, sticking to a color palette . It very often takes awhile rearranging and stepping back until it looks just right, and remember, sometimes less is more.

This is the challenge that Aminy and Edward Audi have taken head on. Once again, the Audi family hit a home run. Finger Lakes is a brand new collection of furniture that is now being produced and manufactured at their L&JG Stickley, Manlius, NY plant.

The newest Stickley collection debuted at Highpoint North Carolina in the spring of 2011 as one of the largest product launches in the last 20 years. Named after the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York, this collection has its roots in designs that have been around for hundreds of years. Traditional forms have been refigured to offer a much more relaxed and livable style of furniture for today’s sophisticated consumer. This collection was conceived from looks and styles that have been time-tested, and will remain fashionable 15 to 20 years from now.

The Finger Lakes collection has been designed with all the cabinet and construction features that are a part of all Stickley furniture collections. The wood of choice for the Finger Lakes collection is American cherry, and three new finishes have been formulated for daily wear and tear.

According to Director of Design Bill DeBlaay, “with Finger lakes we are striving for an eclectic look, combining influences and drawing from styles of years past like French provincial, Casual American and the Colonial period.”

These designs influenced the team at Stickley to offer a newer look, combining traditional heavier scale along with casual styles and finishes.

The Finger Lakes Collection also includes a unique custom table program, which allows the consumer to build a custom table without custom charges. Casual dining has never been so versatile as a wide range of round, draw top, double pedestals, and leg extension dining tables are offered along with five different chairs.

One of those chairs, the Bristol arm chair, was found at the Stickley Museum located in Fayetteville, NY. Originally purchased by Leopold Stickley it has its origins in either English or Irish design and was made in oak sometime during the mid to late 1800’s.

In addition to the large dining room offering, Stickley also added a group of occasional tables and wall units to the Finger Lakes Collection.
